FOH AND IEM ENGINEER

FOH.

I have been working as a sound engineer now for many years, I started off in the venue at Brighton Electric Studios where I have been a recording engineer. I quickly found a love for live sound, its an amazing feeling getting an artist / band happy, comfortable and sounding good on stage.

I love live music, I am an artist myself and I take that creativity and passion into all of my work as a sound engineer. I want it to sound and look good regardless of what my role is.

I held off going on tour with bands for quite some time as I wanted to be ready and know I could do an excellent job in any environment.

I know how it feels to work with a grumpy rude sound engineer. Someone who doesn’t want to be with you and couldn’t care less about doing a good job. I wish it wasn’t a regular thing but unfortunately it is. When you get someone not willing to work hard together or collaborate in the slightest to put on a good show it’s the worst. Its jarring, stressful and I never ever want to put anyone in that situation.

I welcome chats with an artist who knows what they want, positive or negative feedback, it really helps me to know what you want. I believe that open communication, and a good working relationship, helps me make you sound better on stage. I love working together to put on a killer show and will not rest until everything is working and sounding good. I then remain very active on the desk because I do not believe once its set at soundcheck it cant be improved on mid show.

It’s staggering the amount of artists who say it’s rare to work with an engineer who is good, quick and polite. I think those are the most important values of this line of work.

iem.

As stated above I have also been on both the performer and the technician side of In Ear Monitors. I know what It’s like to have good monitors and bad monitors. Like FOH its key to performing well. I have a system and gear of my own to run wired IEMs and can easily rent wireless IEM systems. Please note however, whilst I know how to operate wireless in ears I am by no means a Radio Frequency Tech.

Gear.

I prefer to work from my own desk as I know it inside out and have many profiles which I can quickly recall to more than halve the time of sound / line check. My desk is a Midas M32r Live, it is built to be portable and I love the way this desk sounds.

I am also happy with good notice to learn how to run another sound desk.
