BACKLINE TECHNITION
WHAT MAKEs ME QUALIFIED TO LOOK AFTER YOU ON STAGE.
AFTER MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE PLAYING / WORKING ON A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT STAGES I KNOW WHAT I WANT OUT OF A TECH.
I KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE LOOKED AFTER BY A TECH WHO KNOWS EXACTLY HOW TO FACILITATE ME, who knows how to enable me to DO MY BEST PERFORMANCE. I HAVE TAKEN THAT KNOWLEDGE AND APLIED IT TO THE WAY I TECH FOR the ARTISTS I WORK WITH TO GREAT EFFECT.
I will be honest with you, I didn’t think I would enjoy working as a tech. The thought of watching other artists having the time of their lives, playing to an audience whilst I watch / facilitate their experience from the shadows of a stage, didn’t make me want to do it as a profession.
However the more I got into it the more I found it very rewarding. Watching artists I admire play an amazing set, with a limited amount of worries, knowing that I enabled them to be their best. Knowing that they could do that because I created an environment which made them feel safe is an amazing feeling. A feeling that I find to be almost as creative as playing on that stage my self.
roles i can do for you
These are individual roles I have carried out successfully for clients, often times I am multitasking a few of these roles in a show.
drum tech
I have grown up around drums, I have looked after and fixed so many drums for artists and studios that if I where to list the brands of kit and hardware I have worked on this wouldn’t be a small paragraph.
patching tech
Coming from my work as FOH and IEM engineer I know what its like to be sprinting around making sure everything is patched in right and having to leave my station mid set to go check and repair / replace something that has become faulty. It is stressful, it can be done but it can be a massive distraction from mixing the show. I have been hired for this role before to ensure that the show runs smoothly and to provide excellent communication to Managers FOH, IEM and other in house crew when something breaks.
Guitar and bass tech
I am good at changing strings, cleaning and maintaining a guitar / bass whilst on the road. I can do guitar changes mid set and make sure everything is in tune and working before it is in the hands of a musician.
What I can not do yet is intonate, fix big breaks, re solder or any other major work on a guitar or bass. I will be learning this skill but from my experience talking to guitar techs who are amazing at this sort of job is it takes time and a lot of skill learning to be great at that. I aim to one day soon be good at those other jobs.
COVER ALL backline tech
I have worked on shows I where look after everything, not with as much detail as if I where looking after specific areas (as described above) but still to a professional standard. I sometimes do this whilst being an FOH and IEM engineer if its an easy stage to manage. I know especially for artists who have no financial backing touring is an expensive business so I am happy to work with a small team as required.
